About Ignite
Ignite camps are for students entering grades 7-9. Campers can run up the wall, travel by horse, paddle the pond and play games till the cows come home. Campers will also get the chance to master their skills at their activity of choice. Mission Impossible. Yodel'n Hum. Are you ready for this?
How Chosen Skill Works for Ignite:
Ignite campers will choose one chosen skill for their week o' fun: campers get to choose whether they'd prefer to spend five days working on their horsemanship skills, building and blowing up rockets and volcanoes, developing their paddling abilities while canoeing the wilds of the Evergreen lagoon. In addition to chosen skill you'll have lots of time to try out our other activity areas.
We'll do our best to make sure you get your top choice for chosen skill, but make sure to pick second and third options just in case! Chosen skills are assigned on a first come, first serve basis, so get your registration and payment in soon!
Chosen Skills Options:
*New in 2010!* Adventure Programming
Adventure Programming focuses on our Challenge Course. Not only will these participants have a chance to try each of the elements of our Upper and Lower Challenge Course but they will learn about the equipment, leadership qualities, and how to work in teams. These participants will learn how to communicate better and how to achieve tasks by working in a group.
Canoeing
Participants will get to learn not only the different strokes needed to control and steer their canoe, but they will also get to learn how to switch positions, do t-rescues, and avoid getting tipped.
Climbing
Participants will get to learn climbing techniques and get to experience all the different sides of our wall. They will get to learn about the different pieces of equipment they use and what makes up a rope, how to tie knots, and how to boulder.
Engineering
Ever wanted to drop an egg and have it land without breaking? Build a bridge out of spaghetti? Launch a rocket? How about erupt a volcano (not a really one, silly)? This Chosen Skill is for those who want to build, design, and launch.
Hand Crafts
Activities and projects vary from year to year but in past years we've designed paper mache birds, built matchstick crosses, birdhouses, and designed crazy fun jewelry.
Horsemanship
You will be partnered with one of our awesome horses for the week where you will learn how to ride correctly, learn how to look after your horse, groom them, and have fun developing your horse skills.
Marksmanship
These participants will learn to hit the mark by the end of the week. Learn how to repair arrows and how to maintain your equipment. Learn to shoot with the opposite hand and how to shoot at different targets.
Mountain Biking
Participants will ride, ride, and ride. Our Mountain Bike classes will build technical courses that challenge their fine skills and of course will do some pretty awesome trails all over our land. It's important to know that if you sign up for Mountain Biking as a Chosen Skill, you will need to bring your own bike and helmet as we do not provide them.
Sports
This Chosen Skill is perfect for the camper who loves to play. The sports that this Chosen Skill will focus on are soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Each day will be dedicated to learning new skills in each sport and playing games.
*New in 2010!* Survival Skills
This activity is perfect for those campers who love the outdoors. Participants will learn how to start fires, build shelters, and how to keep themselves safe in nature. Learn about your surroundings, how to use a compass, and what you need to survive if you're lost!
