Boring Stuff For Grown-upsAt Camp Evergreen , we understand that as a parent, you want to make sure that your child will have a safe and fun time at camp. It's important to be able to trust that your child is in good hands, and that they are being respected as well as taken care of. Understanding this, we have created this “Parents' Page” to give you a good overview of who we are, what we stand for, and what some of our expectations are. If you have any questions that are not answered on this page , feel free to give us a call at (403) 638-4230, or send us an e-mail at program@camp-evergreen.com. IntroductionCamp Evergreen is a place where the safety and well being of your child is our first priority. We want you to feel completely assured of this when you drop-off your child at Camp for an incredible week where Faith, Fun and Fellowship create memories. Main PurposeAt Camp Evergreen we strive to effectively convey to each camper the good news of Jesus Christ. We start the mornings with Blue Cows (which is code for chapel): Blue Cows is all about singing, skits and setting a great tone for the day. Blue Cows also includes time for your kids to connect in their cabins to talk about what they're learning about God! These sessions are adapted to the level of the campers in attendance that week. During evening chapels, the group does lots of singing, participates in a 'Sword Drill' where they look for verses in the bible, and a staff member shares a little about what God is doing in their life. Following chapel, campers head back to their cabins with their cabin leaders, where they are able to discuss the message they heard in chapel or perhaps some other related subjects. Our StaffOur staff are hired with great care and lots of prayer! Camp Evergreen's application process requires prospective staff members to provide testimony relating to their walk with God, their skills and experience working with kids and much more. They are required to provide three character references as well as a completed criminal record check. Prospective staff must also agree to our Code of Conduct before they join our team (you may request a copy of the Code of Conduct by e-mailing our Camp office). We consider each complete application, interview, and the comments of applicants' references, with great care and lots of prayer, as we consider whether to offer a position to prospective staff: all with your child's best interests in mind! Once our staff are on site, they participate in a week of leadership training that covers everything from how to care for homesick campers to how to be a Godly cabin leader to skill training and extra summer preparation. We also provide basic First Aid instruction and what to do in case of an emergency. Nurse/MedicDuring the summer months, we have a nurse/medic on site at all times. You will meet this person when you register your child on their first day of summer camp. This person is trained in First Aid and CPR. Major responsibilities of the nurse/medic include the storing and administering of a camper's medications (prescription or otherwise); taking care of minor injuries, dealing with safety and health concerns which may arise during the week; administering First Aid or CPR when necessary; documenting each medical incident whether small or large and conducting cabin checks each day to ensure that clean and sanitary conditions exist (and seeing what kinds of things your children do to decorate their cabins). Medications & Medical ConditionsPack medications separately and label them with the camper's full name. You will be asked to give them to the nurse/medic at registration (including Tylenol, cough syrup, etc.). If there are any special conditions specific to your child's health such as allergies, food restrictions, medication instructions, please provide these in writing to the Camp. Health And Safety ExpectationsSafety and general well being are important issues at Camp Evergreen. Because camping is a vigorously energetic experience, the possibility of injury exists. This can range from major to minor cuts and abrasions to sprained joints, bee stings, concussions, broken bones, etc. With a large number of campers together, it is also possible that illnesses transfer from one person to another. These can range from the flu to a common cold, strep throat and even chicken pox. Should Camp Evergreen find that a camper has become sick with a highly contagious illness, that camper will be quarantined and, if deemed necessary, sent home. Registration/Pick-Up Times*New in 2010!* Registration begins at 3:30PM on the first day of each camp. Starting in 2010, Sunday will be the first day of camp.
